RJL
Hello all! I just got a letter in the mail today that Citi cards sold my account and debt to Calvary. Now here is the strange thing, as soon as I got the letter I went and checked my credit report as I didnt remember even having a Citi card! There is no Citi card on any of the 3 reports and I am showing 0 accounts in collections! I am assuming that the next thing will be a collection letter from Calvary giving me 30 days to dispute the debt?? Any suggestions on what I should do next? Thanks for any help! R There are several possibilities. This could be a card you forgot about. This could be a case of identity theft. Calvary will almost certainly send you a dunning letter. When that happens, send a reply stating that you believe the account to be fraudulent, and that you demand proof of the account. Send this CMRRR. Save a copy of your letter and the green card receipt. If you believe the account to be fraudulent, file a report for identity theft with the nearest police precinct. Get a copy of the police report. Notify credit reporting agencies. When you dispute the debt, if you have already filed a police report, send a photo copy of the report with your letter of dispute. Save everything. RJL
Okay, just got the dunning letter in the mail today. So I am going to dispute! I still dont understand how I have a debt that was sold from Citi but dont have any accounts from Citi on my credit report and I have 0 accounts showing behind or in collections Any ideas? Thanks again!
Goody_Ouchless
It could be a branded card, so maybe you thought of it as something other than Citi. As @Clydesmom has pointed out in other threads, some places may choose not to report delinquent accounts until they are ready to sue so that they don't end up with FCRA violations. Other possibility is that it's too old to be reported, but that's unlikely. So you got a letter from Citi saying that they sold the account and then immediately got a collections letter from Cavalry? RJL
Right..... I just checked my credit report again. All accounts are current including the couple of other credit cards that I have. I got the letter from Citi about selling yesterday and then the letter from Calvary today.
Goody_Ouchless
That's really odd - I don't recall ever getting a letter from an OC saying that they sold an account/
RJL
I agree! Really odd....... Im wondering if I should contact Citi to find out what this is? Or am I better off just disputing it with Calvary?
