Can I get single negative items removed - or must be the whole account?

Hello,

Let's say you have an aged credit account (eg 10 year old credit card) on your credit report.

But it has a few negative items here and there.

eg 30 days late  (2007)

60 days late  (2015)

But other than that it's all OK.

Can you get just the negative items removed ?

So you still benefit from the age of the account?

Or do you have to get the whole account removed? So that you can delete the negatives items.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you friends

I understand.  You don't want an otherwise sterling 10 year old account to be removed.  Did you mean 2017 rather than 2007?  A 10 year old account would not have a derogatory from 2007, and any 2007 derogatory would have fallen off by now anyway.

There is the possibility of good will.  Meaning, since you have a good relationship with this lender, you can ask them pretty please to remove at least the 2015 derogatory, and possibly the 2017 derogatory as well.  The idea being you haven't missed a payment in over 2 years, so pretty please with a cherry on top could they do you this favor?

They will probably say no, but they MIGHT say yes.  It can't hurt to ask.  Sometimes you get what you ask for, especially if you run across someone who just got yelled at by the previous customer and then you are very nice and pleasant and charming.  But it may be out of their hands.  So you might ask very nicely and politely if there is a supervisor who has the power to do that change, and thank you so much for at least trying.

Open or closed?  It matters because they would just as soon delete a closed account than go digging through old records to find what you're asking about.  If it's open, they might remove lates if you plead a good case.  I can tell you that one 30-day late is a much more likely candidate for goodwill deletion than a history of late payments.  What I mean by that is that 60-day late is really 3 late payments, and it will be a lot harder to say it was an innocent mistake on your part, so you'll need something more than a 'dog ate my homework' kind of explanation.
