TATE & KIRLIN: Pay for delete offer

Greeting all!

Opinions requested...
I have received what appears to be an unsolicited payment settlement offer from a collector named Tate and Kirlin. They claim to be collecting for LVNV Funding on an old Credit One account that I did default on 3 years ago. They are offering to settle for 20% of the total claimed due and state that if I pay, LVNV will delete the trade line.. For $152.41 I am temped to take the offer. Even though NC statute of limitations has run, removing this trade line would be welcome since I am planning a home purchase in 12 to 18 months.

Here is my question: Does anyone here have any experience with this kind of offer? Does it sound legit? Would accepting this offer reset the clock? Has anyone here had one of these offers that was the real deal?

Opine one and all, please!

HEADER ( Account number, Current account owner, reference number, total due)

Our Client has authorized us to accept 20% of your balance or $152.41 to satisfy the account, (Saving you $609.62). If you satisfy this account, LVNV FUNDING, INC. will remove it entirely from your credit bureau report!

LETTER BODY:

Dear "Debt Defaulter"
This offer has been authorized by our client LVNV FUNDING, LLC.

Please respond by 6/5/20 to take advantage of this offer. We are not obligated to renew this offer.

The rest of the letter is just office contact information and the standard communication from a debt collector stuff.

It says the that paying the requested amount will “satisfy” the debt.  Neither the NC SOL or the 7-year credit reporting period would be reset.

What is the date of first delinquency?   If it is the same as the default 3 years ago, it has another 4 years to remain on your CR.   Considering the fact that you will attempt to purchase a home within that period, you might want to take advantage of the offer.

Be sure to save that letter!

Hello, I know this is an old thread, but I just received a letter exactly the same circumstances as you. Credit one (who never made a report for on my credit report) > Lvnv funding made collections account>Tate/Krilin trying to collect. I am already past the statute of limitations but they offered to delete the trade line if I settle the debt for $320 or 30% of the original debt. When I was younger and dumber I opened a credit one account for $500 right after losing my job. Racked it up and never paid once. Nothing was put on my repot until lvnv opened the collection account. I have worked really hard at being responsible and rehabbing my credit. I only have 2 years left until it falls off, but I’m in a position now where I could swing the $320 and it would be nice to get rid of the collection from my credit report. I really need to get a new car, but I’ve been waiting because of this collections.

Sorry, I meant to ask if you ended up settling the account and if they followed through to remove it?

They would remove it if you pay unless they wish to be disbared which they don't. Get it writting just to make sure and it states settlement in full and tradeline will be removed.

As for buying a new car dealers have huge inventories but high prices inflated with mark-ups or deal addons. They are hurting and prices should start falling soon.  If you can hold off six more months or better year end you should get a great deal.
