ozaudio
Is there a way to get Zombie debt removed from credit bureaus?
WhoCares1000
Bad information can be reported for up to 7 years on a credit report, even if the statute of limitations has expired for the debt to be sued on. If the 7 year period is not up, you will not be able to remove the credit line, regardless of their ability to sue and you can be sure they will not remove it because that is their only method left to get you to pay. BV80
It depends on the company doing the reporting. Original creditors will rarely remove a credit report entry. However, some debt buyers, such as Midland Funding and Portfolio Recovery, will remove their own entries under certain circumstances. However, debt buyers have no control over the reporting of original creditors.
ozaudio
So when a bank sells debt to a collection company do they sell the entire account? My debt has been sold several times so if I were to dispute the amount owed what would they do, call the original creditor? If they were not able to prove the amount owed would they not have to remove it from the credit reporting agencies?

They do not have to provide the same amount of proof that would be provided in court. For instance, if they are reporting that you owe $5000.00, a charge-off statement from the original creditor that shows that same amount migh suffice to verify the amount. Who is reporting the account? How were you going to dispute it?
ozaudio
Amex, all 3 of my credit reports show "no information available" from dec 2015 through nov 2018. It says never late then goes directly to charge off in dec 2019. But bofa debt has been sold numerous times, I was just wondering if they would have all the info to prove how much debt I really owe. I disputed the amex through Experion 4 weeks ago, they just say it is still being investigated.
