let CC account close or make a charge? Score impact?

Recommended Posts

I have a store CC that I haven't used in a few years. It has a 0 balance with a $1,000 limit. The issuing bank has emailed me stating they will close my account due to inactivity if I do not make a purchase by 5/10/22. The problem is I am starting the process of refinancing my mortage and I need to keep my credit score as high as possible.

Question is, should I make a small charge to keep the account open (utilizing more of my available credit) or let the account close. Which would have the least impact on my short-term credit score?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I had a carecredit card with zero balance they closed it and my score dropped 20 points. however it was my only card.

I would  make a purchase and pay it off within the interest grace period, why risk your refinancing over something you need anyway like linens, towels, food, shoes whatever you might actually need from the store.
