What credit card companies ban you for life?

American Express? Macy's?

I was hoping I could get a list of credit card companies that ban you please and for what such as three late payments or bankruptcies etc.

Three that spring to mind that have a "black list" but not necessarily a lifetime ban are AMEX, CHASE, and CITI.  Even those are not permanent under certain conditions.

Hi Clydesmom,

What is the difference between black list and ban for life?

The best example I can give you is AMEX.  If you burned AMEX in bankruptcy or just a straight up default they have an internal "black list."  That means if it is years later and you apply for a credit card it doesn't matter if your score is over 700, no lates, no charge offs on the bureaus anymore etc.  AMEX will scan their internal black list and if your name is on it as someone who caused them a loss then they won't even do a credit check they simply deny the account for causing them a loss.  There are stories of people who have never got back in and others that paid off what they owed even if over a decade later and did get new credit with them.  There are also anecdotal stories of some getting back in 5 years and 1 month after bankruptcy discharge.  There is no hard and fast black and white rule as to how a creditor determines exactly who they work with again and who they don't.

A lifetime ban would mean you never get credit from a creditor again at all.  I don't think there are any like that but I could be wrong.  Another creditor to add to the list of black listed is NFCU.

Bank of America may be one of those as well.  I defaulted for about $60-$70k and reapplied a decade later.  They rejected me saying I had defaulted on them before.

My wife and I both have official lifetime bans from credit card companies.  As in, we signed agreements never to apply to or even use one of the cards.  Those were companies with which we settled while in arbitration.  Since we have NDAs, I won’t mention the names.

Oddly enough, there is another credit card company I settled with but the settlement did not include a ban.

Amazing.

I beat C1 over a decade ago. Maybe I could get a new one.

Or two Cards. I check online if I prequalified for another money back no fee credit card they said I did so I  got a second card (Savor) from them just to improve my utilization and get 5% money back from eating out. Each cards has $3,000 limit.

My Online user interface still has my Charge off and shows it being sold to MCM and gives MCM contact info.

In my case C1 never sold the account.
I wonder if that would make a difference

Capital-One Forgives or forgets just 3 yrs 1 months after defaulting on my Walmart  Capital-One card (SOL 3yrs) I have a new Walmart Capital one Card with twice the old limit.

Store cards seem to be treated differently than bank-issued cards.  A Walmart-branded card may be easier to get, and may be more forgiving, than a  straight Cap One card.   I had both a Citi-branded card and Sears Credit Card, issued by Citi.  The Citi-branded card sued, but the Sears card was sold to a JDB right after charge off.

Sometimes

I had a Sears Citi card and a Home Depot Citi card.  Citi kept both and sued as the OC. As part of the settlement I am not permitted to apply for any Citi card.
