elfeo99000 Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 I have a delinquent student loan. I haven’t paid it since September 2019 when I was arrested. I just got out of prison. As of yesterday, the past due amount is $6,000+. I owe a total of $69,000+. Because of my record, my chances of employment in the field where I was working is less than zero. I am looking to brainstorm some possibilities on how I can get paying on the loan again since I know it will never go away. Quote
LaneBlane Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 Depending on the crime you were convicted of, it may be impossible to get a job in a particular field. Hopefully this doesn't completely eliminate the entire specialty your education and training involves. Did your state provide you with any resources you can contact for getting yourself acclimated after getting out of prison? There may be a resource for employment counseling. You can also try grok.com (X's version of AI) to ask a variety of questions. You can start with... What kind of jobs can I qualify for when I've been convicted of _____ in [state]? or Can I work in the _______ field if I've been convicted of ______ in [state]? You may be surprised by how helpful something like Grok can be. Quote
elfeo99000 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Report Posted October 11, 2025 I mentioned in another post that the only resource was how to apply for food stamps. I am not trying to stay in Oregon. I am not a resident, but was extradited up here from New Mexico. However, I have 3 more years of “post prison supervision” to complete. I also can’t leave because I will forfeit my appeal. My PO told me to work fast food. I replied if it’s so great then you go work there. 😂 Quote
LaneBlane Posted October 11, 2025 Report Posted October 11, 2025 They really provide you with a lot of direction when you get out of prison. This link may include some helpful info: https://oregonworkforcepartnership.org/reentry/ There are other reentry programs in Oregon. Google... "reentry program" oregon Quote
elfeo99000 Posted October 12, 2025 Author Report Posted October 12, 2025 I think they were not giving resources because I am not an Oregon resident. Quote

Because you need to stay in Oregon for a few years, you may want to consider becoming an Oregon resident and obtaining an Oregon Driver License or ID. Quote
elfeo99000 Posted October 12, 2025 Author Report Posted October 12, 2025 I am trying to get my post prison supervision transferred back to New Mexico. If I do that, it will be pointless. Also, because I am on post prison supervision, I would not be allowed an Oregon driver’s license. I would be trading in a valid NM driver’s license for an Oregon ID card. I would not be allowed to drive without “permission” of the PO. Quote

elfeo99000 Posted October 27, 2025 Author Report Posted October 27, 2025 Update… I have been in contact with servicer called Aidvantage. They told me they cannot help rehabilitate the loan since it has been delinquent 365+ days. I was told to call “Default Resolution Group” who does not know anything about my loan. That is where I am at… Quote
elfeo99000 Posted January 12 Author Report Posted January 12 So a quick update - I was able to pull it back from default. I got a proof of custody letter and sent it. Also complaint to my Congressman helped Right now the loan is on a forbearance until March 31, 2026. Reported to bureaus as paying now. Quote
