Want Fast Credit Repair? Let It Go and Take It SlowThere’s nothing wrong with wanting to fix your credit as soon as possible. In fact, that’s exactly what you should be doing. But there may be a big difference between your impression of fast and ASAP. Like it or not, credit repair takes as long as it takes. The soonest you can expect your credit to improve with any notable significance is likely weeks, if not months, away.

Credit repair takes time.

Not necessarily a lot of your time – as you may only spend a couple of hours a month on it – but the credit bureaus won’t respond to your disputes right away. They have 30 to 45 days to get back to you. And even then, you may not be satisfied with their responses, in which case you may want to dispute directly with the original creditor or collector, which could take just as long to hear back on.

Plus, you may have old debts that have to be settled and paid off. That might take time too, coming up with the lump sum you need to wipe those debts clean.

Adjust your plans accordingly.

You can still apply for a mortgage, or a car loan, or whatever it is you have your heart set on. You just might have to wait longer for it. Well, you may not have to, as your bad credit score could qualify you for a subprime loan. But it’s well worth waiting another year, need be, for a far-better interest rate that will save you considerably in the long run.

Get to work.

The fastest way to repair your credit is to start today. Fortunately, that need not mean hiring a credit repair company, as there is nothing they can do for you that you cannot do for yourself.

What it does mean is reviewing the DIY credit repair process, the first step of which is taking a look at your credit reports, which you can do right now.

Here’s how to get your credit reports, and here’s how to read them.
