Hey guys I need some help here. I've been improving my credit situation for the last 6 months and I am looking to get a secured credit card. I've heard very good things about the BoA secured visa. However, I had an account with them about two years ago that was defaulted and never sent to collections, total less than $200. Should I forget about opening a secure card with them? Will it come back to haunt me? If so, could anyone suggest a good secured card that will upgrade me to a non-secure card after a year of good payment history? My scores, FAKO's are: TU 560, EX 515, EQ 573... I'm getting the baddies off, but I need to get some positive TL's. Thanks in advance.

Will paying old judgment now keep them on my credit 7 more years?

I just want to thank everyone that took the time to reply to my question. I feel I can take care of this now. Big thanks everyone! -
Ok, so here's the deal: I have an old debt about to fall off my report next month. However, the OC got a summary judgment against me about 4 years ago. If I satisfy the judgment now will it keep the listing for both the OC and the judgment for 7 more years? I'm trying to fix my credit and I want to do the right thing, but I'm worried that by trying to fix the problem I may do further damage to my credit score... Please help...

Great post ShortBus... One of the most important things I've learned from this website has been to better manage my personal finances. Getting rid of the old baddies is just an additional benefit. This site and the members here have helped sooooo much. Thanks to everyone... -

Should you trust this website (credit info center)??????????

Just wanted to put in my two cents: My mother used a CCCS service and like one of the other members, it took her forever to finish, and she still had bad credit in the end. I almost got sucked into it until I happened across this site about two months ago. At the beginning of this month I got started on my credit repair, paying no one, and have already gotten a lot of stuff on my credit cleared up, including a major CA deleted from all three CRs. I have also learned a lot about budgeting and debt management by reading through the posts and have taken steps to maintain my good accounts and build better credit. I recommend this site to ANYONE wishing to learn about making their credit better. -
I recently disputed Fidelity Info Sys, a CA, with EX and it was deleted!!!!!! I'm extemely happy about this success so early in my repair process. My question: I pulled my EQ report tonight and it was deleted from there as well. Is this normal? I did not dispute this item with EQ only with EX. I cannot access my TU report until they are finished with my current disputes but I'm anxious to know if CRA's share investigation results, or why this account would suddenly drop off my reports... Any opinions?

Congrats gator... Just a quick question: You go to UF? I'm an alum, '06...

If you really paid this account, and you have a letter stating they would remove any negative reporting, how could they make it worse? It sounds to me like you're just trying to get them to live up to their end of the agreement. Go for it, I honestly believe in the end this will come off. Good luck.

Capital One - Do I determine SOL by "Date of Last Payment" or DOFD?

Thanks Badyear... I appreciate your correction. It seems there is a lot of confusion on this issue, but I think I got it. Again, thanks. -
I agree w/ razr... one of the most important aspects of credit repair is keeping things from going to collection and maintaining your current accounts. Call Cap1 immediately and try to negotiate payment arrangements. Read around about Cap1, or Crap1 as some call them. They are incredibly difficult to deal with and you really don't want their CA's coming after you. Handle it in the best way you can. Good luck...

*bump* Could one of the experts take a look at this and give us some feedback? Thanks

It sounds as though you are dealing with two separate issues. The first should be simple to remove by contacting the OC and requesting an investigation. Check out these links: http://creditinfocenter.com/repair/DisputingWithOriginalCreditor.shtml http://www.debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/forums/showthread.php?p=886297#post886297 For your second problem it sounds as though you have a problem with identity theft, and you may want to do a little more research in the forums for how to specifically deal with that problem. I, fortunately, have not had to deal with that issue. Good luck and let us know what you come up with..

I would further dispute it with TU, and state clearly that the address and phone listed with the CRA is incorrect. Also, include a copy of the letter from TU which states that they verified it via mail, and a copy of your letter which shows that the address is bad. I would demand that they immediately delete the listing as it is obviously impossible to validate if they have no correct contact info for the CA. Obviously they didn't complete an investigation or they would have known that the address was bad. Good luck.
