Just got the pre-approved Cap 1 Platinum mailer. Any idea what they look for in a score? I applied on line and got the 7-10 day thing. (HATE THAT!)

thx

I got one a few years ago they gave me the same 10 day thing. After 2 weeks i figured i didnt get it but it came a month later.

I was going to cancel it recently but they lowered my interest rate and gave me a credit increase.

How long did you have it before they gave you a CLI and how much was it?

They started me with a $300 limit. After two billing statements they raised it to 3000. Then about a year ater that they raised it to $5000 when i stated i was considering closing the account.

They told me at the beginning that my account had to be open at least 6 months before they would even consider an increase but they raised it very quickly.

How long have you had the cap1 card and what is the current credit limit?

Called CAP1 to check on application. Operator told me a letter was sent out (I got depressed) then she said it was a letter to verify my address. I asked her if my credit score etc. had flagged me for denial. She seemed unsure, but just told me the request for my address verification was the next step.

WHADDYA THINK GUYS (AND GALS) . . . GOOD SIGN?

If (when I get this card) I'm done 'til I get the mortgage next year. i can't see myself needing more cards.

Sure hope I get it. It aint a "no" yet.

Well, the only times i got letters that had to verify my address i ended up getting a card.

Capital one has been getting more strict lately. My friend who used to work for them always says that a flat out denial would bypass the address verification letter so that is one way to look at it. In other words, you are at least borderline for acceptance which is positive. Hope it all works out.

I will let the board know when I find out. My worry is more my inq's lately than my score. I've seen people approved on here with worse scores than mine. Those damn inq's! If I had it to do over again, I would have chilled and waited for the pre-approvals to find me!

Thanks for the good words.

Thing you have to keep in mind with Cap 1 is you've gotta max out the card as soon as possible, and then PIF it. They're one of those CC companies that mask your high limit so competitors can't see what kind of cards you're getting and try and whisk you away from them. End result being your high balance is what the CRA claims your limit is.

Jeep... What ever happened to this and what was the number to check your application! I called the # and got a message that I should know by mail by Nov 21 2004?!?!? I applied a week ago! I just want a decent CC with 0% on purchases for gas and thier program seemed OK! But if they don't report than I'll just use it everyonce and a while as long as it doesn't loook like I've used all my credit for $34 in gas!

edub: After I applied via the "preapproval" notice they sent me, I called a few days later and they said they had sent out a "proof of residence" form. When I got that, I called again and they told me I was approved but they didn't know the credit limit. It wouldn't be "revealed" until I activated it. (sneaky trick for desperate people I figure). I figure it should be in the mail today. they said it was mailed out over a week ago. I will keep you posted.

As for the number, it was just the standard CAP ONE # as far as I can recall. I'm assuming I'll get a lousy $300. But hey, it's better than nothing.

I finally got my CAP 1 card in the mail. I activated it and I have a $500 limit. Not bad! I'll take it. My wife and I used it to go see the "Incredibles" tonight. Very cool flick.

Nah Not me. I'm recoverin' from a BK. It's 15%, but I pay my cards off in full each month (for the most part) so the interest rate doesn't really matter. As soon as I can get it down, I'll probably carry more of a balance.

I'm goin out to get some yard supplies on it now. I'm gonna try XAN's advice and max it and then pay it off I think. The 500 availoable credit across the three CB's would really make my utilization look sweet down the road. Plus, I've read on here they increase limits every so often (knock on wood)

Received the card Saturday and called to activate and get CL... Fee of $19 a year for the 0% and a CL of $750?!?!? That's OK considering I don't need to use it but it's there for an emergency! It goes up to 14% after the 0% but I'll cancel it if it doesn't report correctly after the 0% ends! We'll see!
